Claiming Utility Wyoming Heat Pump Rebates

Your electric utility decides exactly how to apply and when the cash back deadlines fall. If you are a customer of Rocky Mountain Power Wattsmart Homes and replace electric furnaces or baseboard heaters, you can claim up to $1,700. An existing heat pump earns you up to $500 when upgraded, and up to $600 goes to a heat pump water heater. These three steps will help you keep your rebate:

  • For heating systems, hire a contractor from the utility's participating list, because the claim is disqualified if you do the work yourself.
  • File your paperwork through the online portal no later than 90 days after the installation is finished or the water heater is bought.
  • Expect the money within 14 working days after approval from the utility.

Lower Valley Energy requires members to get preapproval from its cooperative Conservation Department before they start any installation.

When do the federal Home Energy Rebates start in Wyoming?

Federal rebates run by the state are still being planned right now. In June 2026, the Wyoming Energy Authority secured a federal commitment of funding for its Wyoming Home Energy Savings Program, a $69 million effort. Since January 2025, that conditional award had been on pause. The program website still needs building, and the agency has yet to announce a firm launch date.

After the appliance rebates open, what you save depends on Area Median Income, which means the midpoint household income in your county. A household under 80% of that midpoint could see 100% of expenses reimbursed; between 80% and 150%, the cap is 80%. At rates based on income, whole-home rebates will be open to every resident. Wyoming Weatherization and Fuel Rules

Free efficiency upgrades are available to lower-income families through the Wyoming Weatherization Assistance Program at the Department of Family Services. A household qualifies at 200% of the federal poverty level or below. Your application goes in on a joint form, one also used for heating bill assistance.

Before requesting quotes, ask your electric utility to confirm your home type and current fuel. Only existing single-family homes are covered by Rocky Mountain Power; it excludes manufactured homes and any conversion from wood, gas, oil, pellets, or propane. Power rates for qualifying electric homes run almost 14 cents per kilowatt-hour, under the national average of almost 19 cents. After pausing its 2026 efficiency plans, Black Hills Energy currently offers no rebates. Under Public Law 119-21, the federal 25C tax credit also ended; it no longer applies to equipment put in service after 31 December 2025.

Common Questions About Wyoming Heat Pump Rebates

In 2026, is the heat pump tax credit from the federal government available in Wyoming?

No. Under the One, Big, Beautiful Bill, the federal Section 25C credit was ended by Congress on July 4, 2025. Internal Revenue Service Fact Sheet FS-2025-05, issued August 21, 2025, says no credit is allowed for installations made after 31 December 2025. The credit is claimable on a prior tax return only when your system went into service before that cutoff.

In Wyoming, how do I get a heat pump at no cost?

SNAP, SSI, or TANF benefits make a household automatically income-eligible for the free upgrades under the Wyoming Weatherization Assistance Program. The upcoming High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate Program also plans to cover 100% of heat pump costs for lowest-income residents. Once the state begins taking applications, that full reimbursement will go to households earning below 80% of local median income.

Do heat pump rebates and financing still exist in Wyoming?

Yes. Lower-tier system upgrades earn $250 or $350, and Tier 1 conversions also bring $1,200 from Rocky Mountain Power. Water heaters earn you $300 from the utility when they are Tier 1 models, and installing the unit yourself is allowed. In western Wyoming, Lower Valley Energy rebates apply to ductless and ground-source units; on-bill financing lets you repay on your electric bill.

Which efficiency ratings make a heat pump qualify for a Wyoming rebate?

A unit must hit the minimum heating score, called HSPF2, and cooling score, called SEER2, printed on its energy guide label. To earn $1,200, Rocky Mountain Power requires 7.5 HSPF2; for $1,700, it requires 8.1 HSPF2 and 15.2 SEER2. To get the $500 upgrade amount, a unit needs 8.5 HSPF2 and 16 SEER2; Lower Valley Energy instead requires AHRI Certified equipment.
