Claiming NV Energy and Nevada Heat Pump Rebates

NV Energy customers see heating and cooling savings on their bill, with no forms to mail after the work. Once an installer finishes the job, you cannot claim the discount for residential air conditioning yourself.

Take these three steps so the discount is not lost:

  1. Before your installation date, choose a company on the approved contractor list that NV Energy keeps for Northern or Southern Nevada.
  2. A central unit needs ratings of 15.2 SEER2 or higher for cooling and at least 7.8 HSPF2 for heating.
  3. Look at your final invoice and make sure the instant discount was subtracted from your price by the contractor.

Ratings of 18 SEER2 or higher and 9 HSPF2 or higher are required for ductless systems. Only single-family houses and townhomes qualify. An approved contractor takes $800 off a heat pump water heater, or you save $500 instantly at participating stores.

Is Extra Help Available to Lower-Income Households in Nevada?

A bigger NV Energy discount is automatic for families in the Nevada Energy Assistance Program or in qualifying affordable housing. Your approved contractor applies the larger savings amount right on your invoice, with no extra paperwork from you.

Households earning 200% of the federal poverty level or less have another option open to them today. Through the Nevada Weatherization Assistance Program, you can apply for free efficiency upgrades; the Nevada Housing Division runs it with local nonprofits.

The federal Home Efficiency Rebates and Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates are another thing homeowners ask about. Nevada won conditional approval for both programs, worth about $96 million combined, and named Everblue their manager in December 2024. The Governor's Office of Energy says the launch awaits federal review, and applications are not being taken by either program yet.

Rules on Natural Gas and the End of Federal Tax Credits

Natural gas is the main heating fuel in over three in five Nevada homes; electricity heats one in three. That mix of fuels matters, since NV Energy limits two widely used equipment discounts to homes that already heat with electricity.

A cold climate heat pump counts for the utility discount only if it replaces heating that was already all-electric. The $800 water heater discount works the same way: you must be replacing an electric model, not a natural gas tank. To qualify, a water heater must also carry an ENERGY STAR label and score above 2.2 on the Uniform Energy Factor, which measures water heating efficiency.

Congress passed Public Law 119-21 on July 4, 2025, and it ended the federal Section 25C tax credit. For heat pumps put in service after December 31, 2025, no federal tax credit is allowed.

Common Questions About Nevada Heat Pump Rebates

Do heat pumps come with federal tax credits in 2026?

No. In 2026 there are no federal residential energy credits. Under the One, Big, Beautiful Bill, cited as 139 Stat., Congress ended the credit ahead of schedule. 72. The agency confirmed in IRS Fact Sheet FS-2025-05, dated August 21, 2025, that equipment installed after 2025 does not qualify.

Who is eligible for Nevada energy rebates and building discounts?

Your building type and housing status determine whether you are eligible. New construction and window units are left out of the NV Energy air conditioning discount. The water heater discount is different: multifamily buildings with up to four units per foundation are allowed. On the state side, Nevada is still waiting for $48.2 million in whole-home rebates and $47.9 million in appliance rebates.

Which units earn the NV Energy discounts for heat pumps and water heaters?

To qualify, heating and cooling units need AHRI-verified status, which means an independent lab has tested the efficiency ratings. Buyers at retail stores must choose an in-stock water heater, since special orders miss out on the $500 discount. The utility website has an older note about a $400 incentive, but the current schedule pays either $500 or $800.
