Claiming Your Mississippi Heat Pump Rebates Step by Step

The rules on who may install your equipment and submit the paperwork come from your electric provider. To make sure you get the money, use the steps for your own power company:

  1. Entergy customers: You must use an approved participating contractor, also called a trade ally. The Entergy Mississippi heating and cooling page lists them. Using an online tool, the contractor files your rebate application for as much as $1,100 while funds last. Up to $750 is available on eligible heat pump water heaters, with the dated receipt due by mail or online within 30 days.
  2. North Mississippi customers: A Quality Contractor Network member must do the work in homes within the 250 Tennessee Valley Authority ZIP codes. Once the unit is in, the claim is filed by your contractor at the TVA EnergyRight rebates portal. A redemption code arrives by email, and you use it to claim your $500 to $1,500 rebate.
  3. Mississippi Power customers: Once installation is done, you can apply with a printable form or on the Mississippi Power rebates portal.

Which Programs in Mississippi Help Families with Lower Incomes?

Today, two assistance options are active for families on a tight budget, while future utility programs are still being planned by state officials. First, local community action agencies deliver the Weatherization Assistance Program on behalf of the Mississippi Department of Human Services. Free upgrades go to households earning no more than 200% of federal poverty guidelines, $66,000 for a household of four, for example. Second, qualifying customers in north Mississippi get free upgrades averaging $10,000 from TVA Home Uplift, which works through participating local power companies.

Planning is still underway for the federal Home Energy Rebates. The Mississippi Development Authority Office of Energy has yet to publish rebate amounts, income rules, or an open date covering appliance or whole-home upgrades. Once those rebates launch, local utilities will deliver them directly.

Efficiency Ratings, Tax Rules, and Heating Fuels in Mississippi

How local homes are heated makes a high-efficiency heat pump a smart switch here. The Energy Information Administration reports that electric heat is used in almost six in 10 households in Mississippi, and natural gas in three in 10. Propane is the main heating fuel in about one in 10 homes, double the national rate.

While you shop, look for two efficiency numbers on the equipment label. Cooling efficiency is measured by SEER2, and heating efficiency by HSPF2. To earn the top $1,100 ducted split incentive from Entergy Mississippi, the label must show at least 18.05 SEER2.

Because the federal 25C tax credit was ended early by Public Law 119-21, budget with utility incentives alone. An Internal Revenue Service notice says this credit cannot be claimed for equipment put in service after 31 December 2025.

Common Questions About Mississippi Heat Pump Rebates

Can you still claim the federal heat pump tax credit in 2026?

For any heat pump installed in 2026, the answer is no: the federal tax credit cannot be claimed. In July 2025, Congress passed Public Law 119-21, which is known as the One, Big, Beautiful Bill. The credit ended after 31 December 2025, as Internal Revenue Service Fact Sheet FS-2025-05 confirms. On your tax return, only systems put into service before the cutoff date qualify.

What energy rebates are open in Mississippi right now for mini-splits and water heaters?

Ductless mini-splits earn $165 or $140 per ton from Entergy Mississippi, with one ton meaning a cooling capacity of 12,000 BTU/hr. Up to $200 per ton comes from Mississippi Power once a system reaches 14.3 SEER2, plus $350 for a heat pump water heater that is ENERGY STAR. TVA EnergyRight has $800 available on 17 SEER2 mini-splits, and its marketplace coupon of $900 covers up to two water heaters at each address.

Are rebates for heat pumps disappearing in Mississippi?

Today, utility rebates remain open, but heating and cooling incentives from Entergy Mississippi are offered only while annual funds last. At the same time, new utility-delivered Home Energy Rebates are getting ready to launch, not to disappear. Those voluntary programs are being set up by the Mississippi Development Authority with local utilities, but no launch dates are posted yet.
