Claiming Oklahoma Heat Pump Rebates Step by Step
Follow the rules your electric provider sets, so you do not lose the payout.
- Public Service Company of Oklahoma rebates call for a participating contractor; ask that up to $1,400 come off your invoice.
- Once you buy an ENERGY STAR model, submit a claim of up to $750 for your heat pump water heater. The utility's online appliance portal takes the claim.
- Oklahoma Gas and Electric rebates need a state-licensed contractor. The house must be single-family, sit on a permanent foundation, and be over ten years old.
- Before anything else, phone Oklahoma Gas and Electric, since certain Oklahoma rebates remain closed until 2027.
- Your invoice needs a date between January 1 and December 1 and must be sent within 30 days. Up to $1,500 then arrives in six to eight weeks.
- Oklahoma Electric Cooperative rebates ask for your installer invoice plus the equipment certificate, sent via the online form for specialist review.
Rebate Status at the State Level and Income-Qualified Offers
Larger state programs have not launched yet, but extra help exists today for lower-income households. Income-qualified customers of Oklahoma Gas and Electric receive up to $3,000 in free insulation, free air sealing, and free system tune-ups.
Neither program is open yet, but the Oklahoma Department of Commerce will also handle $129,152,880 in federal Home Energy Rebates. For hiring a program contractor, the state has no timeline. At purchase, the appliance program, called HERRA in Oklahoma, will take up to $8,000 off heat pump prices once it opens. Heat pump water heaters will receive up to $1,750, subject to a $14,000 household cap. Area median income means the midpoint income of a county. Families under 80% of it get 100% covered, and those between 80% and 150% get 50%. Cutting energy use by 20% to 35% earns $2,000 to $4,000 from a separate whole-home program, or double for lower incomes. No-Cost Weatherization and Heating Rules in Oklahoma
The Oklahoma Weatherization Assistance Program covers all 77 counties and accepts renters and homeowners whose income is 200% of the poverty level or below. After an audit uncovered $663,000 of questionable spending, the state halted weatherization, KOCO reported in May 2026. Participation had already ended for the Oklahoma City-area community action agency, on June 6, 2025.
Natural gas heats about half of Oklahoma's homes, and electricity serves two in five, federal energy data shows. Oklahoma Electric Cooperative pays $750 when you replace gas heat with a heat pump running on dual-fuel backup, which keeps gas for freezing weather. A $600 payout goes to ductless mini-splits without electric strip backup that replace electric resistance heat. In addition, equipment put into service after December 31, 2025 no longer qualifies for the 25C federal tax credit, which Public Law 119-21 ended.
Common Questions About Oklahoma Heat Pump Rebates
Which HVAC rebates are currently available in Oklahoma?
The payout from Public Service Company of Oklahoma depends on SEER2, the label's cooling efficiency rating. A unit rated 15.2 to 17.1 SEER2 earns $600, one at 17.2 to 19 SEER2 earns $1,000, and 19.1 or higher earns $1,400. That utility gives geothermal systems $1,400; Oklahoma Electric Cooperative instead pays $750 per ton, with a five-ton maximum.
Will any tax credits exist for heat pumps in 2026?
A heat pump installed in 2026 does not qualify for any federal tax credit. As explained in Internal Revenue Service Fact Sheet FS-2025-05, released August 21, 2025, Congress stopped the residential energy credits ahead of schedule. Under Public Law 119-21, signed July 4, 2025, no system installed after December 31, 2025 could still get the credits.
Which energy rebates are available in Oklahoma for 2026?
Electric utilities run the only active rebates for now; that changes once the Oklahoma Department of Commerce brings on contractors for the federal rebate funds. Air-source heat pump rebates from Public Service Company of Oklahoma do not cover mobile homes, manufactured homes, or multifamily buildings. Handled by Skyline Energy Solutions, Oklahoma Gas and Electric lets a home claim its replacement rebate just once every 20 years.
For a house in Oklahoma, how much of a heat pump's cost can rebates cover?
Rebates from utilities pay flat amounts or rise with cooling capacity instead of square footage. For geothermal units in new homes, Oklahoma Electric Cooperative pays $750 per ton, capped at five tons. You also get that same per-ton payout if you upgrade from a gas furnace or from an air-source heat pump. Eligible households, once the state appliance program opens, can get their cost covered at 50% or 100%, up to $8,000.
